The simple wood cross had a lip to it,
it just called out to have something put in it.

What you need:
wood cross.
glass or other 'filler'.
E 6000 glue.
mod podge (clear coat/fills in spaces)
a couple days for it to dry.

Lights Out

Last night the power went out,
I'm not 'allowed' to have candles.
We have flashlights, but no batteries.
We have hurricane lanterns, but no oil.
I had the light from my cell phone.

*the not 'allowed', might have something to do with me setting the bathroom on fire many years back*

Chocolate King Cake

Had a moms night out last night.
I made another King Cake (same filling as before)
But used a chocolate glaze for the top.
We girls like our chocolate.

It was goood.

***I also made grits and cornbread, Southern favorites -
b/c my girlfriends haven't ever had'em***

Homemade White Bread

OMG, it smells so good.

This is my 2nd time making homemade bread...
the first time didn't end well -
they turned out like bricks.

I found this recipe:

The yeast, the smell -
takes me back to my days of making yeast rolls at Quincy's Steak House.

*it tastes good, but it could use a lil more salt? or sugar? or leave it as is?*

Bubba Likes Moonpies Song

I grew up hearing this song every year at Mardi gras.
WABB 97.5FM was the only station to ever play it.
They were recently bought out and as of March 1, will be no more.
Long Live Bubba Likes Moonpies.

Costume Contest

Marigold's did it again,
they were having a Fat Tuesday + costume contest.
At the last minute, I decided to go -
quiet+book+wine=me time.

I put on a Mardi Gras mask &

It helps that I was the ONLY person w/ balls to put on a lil something extra.

Hubs is enjoying his mixed beer (6pack).

I'm 4 for 4 on contest.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but
I make a pretty damn good cornbread.
I do a happy dance every time.

It's good on it's own.
or crumbled in buttermilk
(just enough to make it wet)
*my brother likes it in reg. milk*
or with syrup (the way hubs likes it).

Proud to say, I've turned a few cornbread haters.

I know it's a basic recipe.
But everyone needs a 'basic' recipe to work off of,
to add to.

nom nom nom

1c flour (self rising)
3/4c yellow cornmeal
1tsp salt
3tsp baking powder
1/3c sugar (I always add more)
3Tbsp fat (oil/butter)
1c milk
1 egg

Preheat oven to 425
in a Greased (butter/oil/spray) 8"pan

Bake 20-25min til golden brown.

Turnover on cutting board.
Slather with more butter
(try not to think about it)

Happy Mardi Gras - Fat Tuesday

Happy Fat Tuesday Y'all! Altho, here in Idaho, it's just another Tuesday :P

I have to be honest with y'all. I'm born and raised down south and I haven't really ever had a king cake *gasp*

*you know how it is - IF you are surrounded by__________ you don't eat/do/ whatever. when you aren't around it anymore you WANT ____________*

I had it once, but it had blueberry crap on the inside and I did not like it. Thus, I haven't really had one.

I figure it's time to try my hand at it. Bring a lil of Mardi Gras to the high desert.

I might want to bring it to Idaho, but that doesn't mean I want to make it from scratch.

I started w/:
8oz brick of cream cheese.
1 can pizza crust
powder sugar
a lil vanilla
1can whipped cream cheese frosting.

I unrolled the pizza crust (room temp)
mixed the cream cheese (room temp) and powder sugar, vanilla and cinnamon (all to taste).
spread the cream cheese mix onto the crust
rolled it up (long)
shaped it into a 'ring'
baked off per directions.
*I have pics of all steps, if interested*

let cool.

3 bowls + green, yellow and red/blue (purple) food color
mixed the colors to get Mardi Gras

***since I only have the blueberry crap to compare it to-
It wasn't bad.
The cream cheese melted into the 'bread'.
I like it.
The boys liked it.

*IF I make it again, I will make homemade glaze (powder sugar, milk & vanilla)*

I Never Wanted To Label Myself, but

I've been having problems with this painting.
Draw what I see.
I've drawn and erased it a few times now.

This one...
it was hard.
So, I drew the negative.
(empty spaces)

it's been brought to my attention that I am an abstract artist, I've never thought of myself that way (I don't want to label myself), but when I think about it...Yeah, I do a lot of abstract.
I said something to hubs about this and he said 'that's how you think'.
Why didn't he tell me that? lol
I'm OUT, I'm abstract :)

I like Heat

Frank's isn't hot enough,
I've been adding the Vietnamese chili sauce to it.

Here I have it on friend chicken.

Happy Fat Tuesday!

'Not Manly Enough'

Sitting at the coffee table filling out Valentines for the parties tomorrow.
Sprout got Toy Story.
Hoss got Spider-man and he told me
'Spider-man, isn't manly enough'.
He's in 3rd grade folks!

He then told me that
'the guys from Cowboys vs Aliens
the guys from Fast 5
Harry Potter'
would have worked better.

UPDATE on island

I bought the sewing table (w/ machine) for $25.
Took out the machine (it worked).

Updated the sewing table to a kitchen island.
Less than $10 in pennies,
and the cost of the handles.

The Update:
I sold the machine for $25.
So, I have maybe $15 in the island.

Sticking to the Deal

Had to take the spark plugs out and see if the motor would turn,
it wouldn't.
(with hubs help - hands me the tools and tells me what to do)

Still need to find and S10 frame.
A motor.

Face plate/panel for the front of the bed.
The metal bars in the bed and replace all the wood.

Straighten out some bent metal.

I don't mind the snow...

...when it comes down in perfect flakes.

I noticed 2 years ago (when I was in Alaska) that the flakes were PERFECT.

I've seen them a few times here,
but today I actually tried to take the pictures.
It was a lil difficult, because they would hit and then melt on the windshield.

These pics are from the side mirrors.

The pics would turn out better (more detail) IF I had a micro lens.
