Spring Blossom

I walked by this cute lil thing a few times (thinking it Corning).
I finally picked it up and looked...
sure enough, it's Pyrex.
With a plastic lid.
(Margarine dish. 1977-1979, thanks to Pyrex Collective)

When ya buy these at my thrift store...
if the item has a lid,
they tape the lid to the base.

After washing I noticed that inside lip
there is a 1' piece missing.
Oh well.

First 5k of the Year

I walked (WALKED) my first 5k of the year.
I finished in 54min
(which is 10min slower than I did it last year, but having had walking pneumonia 1 1/2mths ago...that's not bad).
The hills kill.
There are 2 more walk/runs this coming weekend (May 7 & 8).
I plan on doing at least 1.

I was so excited about the find that I snapped a pic while in checkout.
We have here:

the 402 avocado green, Cinderella bowl.

Also found, but no pictures - books for Hoss (ghost stories and goosebumps all $.50ea)
and 1 for me - P.C.Cast Immortal, doesn't look to have been read for $1.00 (ok, so it's a few short stories edited my Cast. The authors are: Caine, Cast2, Gray, Holder, Lee, Mead and Smith).

I love thrifting.

Saturday Finds

There was an estate sale that started yesterday.

For some stupid reason I didn't go.
I didn't go after my girlfriend told me of all the Pyrex,
and I still didn't go after hubs told me of all the 'STUFF'.

Hubs went to it again today.
Girlfriend went to it again today and I was still like....Meh.

FINALLY I went and look what I got for $3.
Yes, I got 4 dinner plate w/ turquoise trim and a yellow, round casserole dish ALL for $3.

*bangs head on wall, wonders why I didn't go yesterday*

I looked under a couple of the plates when I got'em to make sure they were marked Pyrex.
They are all the same size.
They have the same pattern.
They are the same color.

Coming home from a girls night out, hubs took me into the kitchen to see if I noticed anything-
Yes, he actually did the dishes!
He told me to look close at the Pyrex plates and asked 'do you see anything different'?
No, Not really....
But looking closer, 1 of the plates has more of a blue tint to the pattern.
Also, it is stamped Anchor Hocking.

Look what my girlfriend gave me last night!
Same girlfriend that told me to hit up the estate sale.
She knows I just adore the Friendship.
She could have easily kept it for herself, but she gave it to me.

Don't ya hate when you don't kno what you are really doing online, but click away anyway?

Me: click, click, click
Computer: *POOF*

I know ya'll all are sitting on the edge of your seats wondering 'did she fix it?'
It only took about 4 hours to get things back the way I had it before I got all 'click' happy.
I uninstalled and reinstalled.

I Love'em!

It's a constant thing for my family and friends to pick on me all year around (especially during Winter) because I wear sandals (yes, even in the snow).

My very best girlfriend in the entire world and her lovely husband went to Vegas recently and found a sock shop.

Thank You A & B!

A Review

A friend of a friend of a friend recommended this book, stating 'it's better than Twilight'. I questioned the fandom of said friend of a friend of a friend. I believe I said 'she must not have been much of a Twihard if she claims this is 'better than Twilight''. But was told otherwise.

Chapter 1 - ok, I see it, am somewhat enjoying it.

Chapter 2-15 *wants to bang head on wall*.
I swear I already read this book...oh wait I DID! It was titled Twilight and I rather enjoyed the book.

Just so you know what I am talking about:

Characters: Alice (Bella), Jack (a mix of Edward and Jacob), Ezra (Carlisle?), Peter (Rose), Milo, Jane(BFF - Jessica), Mae(Esme). --- this is the way I saw it.

Jack is super fast/strong.

ch2-saves her and her friend from an attack (of big guys) - drives them home.

his skin is smooth and temperature-less

he's rich - big ass house/5car garage (he drives a jeep, but a 'brother' drives a silver sports car).

money is no object.

saves her life multiple times

wants her to meet his 'family'

they argue, a lot

he's attractive/people 'react' to him

Alice - 'guesses' to what he is

Jack - 'in order for this friendship to work, yours just going to have to accept that there are certain

things that I am not going to tell you'.

Alice - 'what if I don't accept'

Jack - 'then we cant hang out.............I cant tell you why I cant tell you'.

Alice - 'it's going to frustrate me to no end'.

a rather annoying bff aka Jane
'observant'/'cryptic' - these words are used often in the 1st book.

DIFFERENCE - they text each other and her lil brother is gay

he has 2 brothers and a sis-in-law. 1 brother is the male version of Rose.

Alice - 'you're not going to tell me?--------------this doesn't seem fair'

he heals fast

Alice - 'you were bit, but there is hardly a wound, and you have super human strength, everything in the whole world wants me to have sex with you and you don't have a temperature!' (sound familiar?)

Jack doesn't exactly hide who he is, but he wont tell her either...he thinks himself a 'monster'. he hopes she will 'guess what he is'.

Chapters 2-15 was basically Twilight (IMO) but she 'made' her own book by changing some words, but the convo's were basically the same.

I told hubs 'it's as if the author took notes while reading Twilight and watching the movies'.

Finally midway through the book it becomes it's Own book. Ok, starting to enjoy it. Don't so much want to bang my head against a wall.

You get past the 'similarities' to Twilight and ALL the errors stand out. Missing words. No punctuation. Or a random letter behind a period.s PLEASE, if you can't afford an editor ask a friend to proof read your book before it goes into mass production. I finally got a pencil and started fixing all the issues in the book - JUST IN CASE, I feel the need to torture myself down the road by rereading these.

Book 2, Fate. Was enjoyable - still similar convo's between Edward and Bella - Oops, I mean Jack and Alice. Alice's little brother is turned because of a freak accident - she can't let him die, so the 'family' turns him. The ending was a bit of a surprise.

Book 3, Flutter - Now, the author has gone off the deep end. There are so many things happening that it's hard to see how they all relate. The ending...oy vey!

Just started reading book 4, Wisdom and as you can see - I am enjoying it so much *heavy sarcasm* that I decided to blog about it.

Conclusion I have come to thus far, Alice is an annoying and weak 18 year old. Her hormones are out of control - she doesn't know if she loves Jack or his 'brother' Peter (the one she bonded with). Jack is overbearing. Mae is going threw a midlife crisis, etc...etc...

So, to all ya'll that think I am being to harsh on this series - by all means go read them. Otherwise SAVE YOUR MONEY.

*I do not call myself a Twihard. I enjoyed the books and I enjoy the movies. I am very much in touch with reality.

Love ya Mel, like I said No Worries! :)

April 4, 2011 -
confession, I am on chapter 2 and I don't think I can finish. I am a 'start a series, finish a series', type person. Book 4, however, is just so R-E-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S...that it hurts.

A Part of Home In Tater State ~ Bayou Dave's

Hubs and I had a date last night (it's a rare occurrence, being that we don't have family around).
We went to see The Lincoln Lawyer (thanks to the free passes I won last weekend).
Then we hit up this new joint here in town - Bayou Dave's.

I tried their gumbo (shredded chicken, sausage and shrimp), hubs had their Memphis sandwich (pulled chicken and pork topped with a dill slaw - hubs HATES slaw, but when he was done there wasn't a piece left). The fries were a seasoned shoestring type fry (similar to the Checkers fries -old drive thru, no longer around).

2 words - PECAN PIE!
OMGoodness, warm and perfect!

I'd say the gumbo was spot on!
There wasn't any preprocessed anything in any of what we had.
(the only complaint I had - I'm from the south and we like our stuff HOT...the HOT usually comes from Tabasco Sauce. I asked for Tabasco Sauce -to add to the gumbo- they brought me Franks Hot Sauce, not exactly the same thing, but I used it anyway).

I'd say Bayou Dave's was a WIN!
